5/11/15 final post

What was the most fun/engaging activity that you did in ELA this year? Why was it fun/engaging?

The seminars, because they lead to very interesting discussions.

What was the most boring activity that you did this year? Why was it boring?

The response projects, because we didn't have a long enough time to really prepare a good response.

What was your favorite book this year? Why?

A Raisin in the sun, because it was dealing with a time period I enjoy learning about.

What was your least favorite book this year? Why?

The alchemist, it just wasn't interesting to me.

What should I definitely keep the same for next year's ELA curriculum? Why?

The seminars, because they are a very good way to discuss ideas from the book.

What should I definitely change for next year's ELA curriculum? Why?

The vocab sheets, needs more diversity.

Is there anything else that you would like to tell me about your experience in ELA? If so - please put it here.

It is a good class.

Ha he was right

Forgive my socialist outlook on the subject but the current America does follow this creed of take to succeed. If you are able to amass enough wealth weather the means are legal or not you can take control of the governmental authorities and the media. I don’t agree that those who take the most are the smartest but I do agree that it is what leads to power and control.

The "RACIST" in the sun. Ha get it

In the play the committee sent an ambassador to the Younger family to present them with what they paid for the new house and a profit to keep them out of the neighborhood. The Youngers became hostile when the offer was made and they threw the racist out. The ignorant racist was confused by this because he saw the deal differently than the Youngers did. While the Youngers and all of us saw this as a racist deal that would only further segregate the races, the racist saw the deal as some kind of way to “keep the peace” through segregation.

Raisin in the sun

In the first act of the book the idea that the characters are driven by dreams they have either had or have. The story reveals a lot about the characters dreams and will most likely continue to do so. The poem is describing what comes of dreams being unattainable and what the person who had those dreams will do after losing ability to achieve it. The play has already presented that most of the characters won’t get what they want due to limited money and limited economic mobility. I think the reason the poem was so heavily referenced in the play is because they both share the theme of losing an idea you believed to be reachable but in reality was not.

T g g I guess

The great Gatsby has opened my eyes beyond my syndical view of the American Dream. I realize now the american dream is much more than a hope of getting ahead in life. It is a dream of freedom. Freedom from a government who cares not for the common worker. Free from a government that gives privilege to the rich, the religious, or the military. This freedom is given in human rights and in economic mobility. The American Dream is a dream of freedom, And that dream is my dream.

2/9/15 the great Gatsby

Nick Carraway is not being true to his first statement in the sense that nobody can truly reserve judgment from themselves but he does a pretty good job of reserving it from others. On many occasions he talks about his views of the other characters in the book like when he says that J Gatsby is everything he hates but he somehow became acquainted with him. In chapter two when nick was at the party he was judging the conversation for its vulgarity and he was also judging the act of becoming intoxicated indirectly by saying that he had only been drunk one other time in his life and in chapter 3 he describes his new girlfriend as fundamentally dishonest. But he is as he put it “one of the only honest people he knows because he doesn’t attempt to make people more justified than they are, he is only honest about his accusations and characterizations.

The great Gatsby 2/2/15

The most disturbing part of of the inequality is that it didn't surprise me. The position that America is in is a horrible state where the majority of the lower class is engulfed by poverty and the middle class is beginning to see poverty as a real threat to their not so secure lifestyle all because nearly half of the nations wealth is allowed to reap main with 10% of the public. He fact that we let this go on in our modern world is even sicker and more disturbing than the statistics.
