Journal for part 1 of heart of darkness

1. I learned that african art can revolved around human forms
1. Almost every leader had a sculpture based on them
1. Sculpting african art was an employment like painting is today

My favorite piece was a sculpture that had a black neck, back of head, top of head, and a sliver that went down to the tip of the nose with a sort of white heart shape covering the eyes, mouth and chin. it was my favorite because it resembled a human with the texture of an owl, which i find fascinating considering that they usually stuck to making human figures.

Journal on intro to heart of darkness

1. It turned a mad dash for the resources and land of Africa
2. It lead to genocide of countless africans
3. It had a negative effect on the colonialists

What I learned about Joseph Conrad is that he spent his life traveling around the world as a seaman and writing about the places he went. The introduction didn't describe his alignment when it came to colonialism, it just stated the afflictions of his characters and how the book revolved around colonialism effecting the Congo, the people living there, and the English and Belgian invaders.
